Food safety is a core competency at Sugar Creek Packing Co. We started HACCP programs in all of our plants in 1996. Our state-of-the-art offsite corporate food safety lab was certified by USDA in 1999. The laboratory is staffed with a PhD microbiologist along with other certified chemists assisting in salts, fats, APC and Listeria testing.
The fact that we produce products for many branded multinational companies makes Sugar Creek Packing Co. unique in our food safety culture. We have the opportunity to implement a best practice approach with our company's exclusive food safety program. This truly makes our overall food safety a dynamic program that is constantly improving.
Since the SQF (Safe Quality Food)started two years ago, Sugar Creek Packing Co has been a SQF level 3 in all of our plants. In addition, we conduct roughly 40 customer audits in our plants each year, including Silliker and Cook and Thurber audits. We have over 35 individuals in our plants dedicated to making our products the safest in the industry. Our quality assurance program provides weekly training for all of our associates on various food safety, handling and sanitation practices.
Trained employees are only one aspect of our food safety effort. We have also invested in the latest technology in metal detection equipment, security, 24 hours cameras, access control, fencing, and an industry first laser sorter on bacon bits. |
